Հասկանալու համար ինքդ քեզ պիտի դիմես ուրիշի, բայց որպեսզի հասկանաս ուրիշին, պիտի թարգմանես նրա ներաշխարհը սեփական լեզվին։
Օտար լեզվի ուսուցման մեջ թարգմանական գործը դառնում է կարևորներից մեկը, եթե ոչ ամենակարևորը: Թարգմանությունը զարգացնում է կարդալու, գրելու, խոսելու եւ թարգմանելու հմտություն առնվազն երկու լեզուներով: Գեղարվեստական գործ թարգմանելիս նախ պետք է կարդալ այն մինչև վերջ, հասկանալ նրա բուն ոգին հետո միայն փոխադրի բնագրի բովանդակությունն ու ձևն այնպես, որ համապատասխանի բնագրի լեզվին և ոճին: Պետք է կարողանալ տալ նրան քո լեզվի բույրն ու հմայքը չհեռանալով բնագրից: Ուստի այստեղ սովորողը շատ բան ունի անելու, և՛ պետք է մայրենին ուշադրություն դարձնի, և՛ օտար լեզվին:

EXTRACT I
There was a pontoon bridge across the river…..he was too tired to go any
further.
